Kentish Express – 21 October 2004 - Villages Join Forces For Arts Weekend

Two community groups came together for a successful two-day arts festival last weekend.

The Village Arts Weekend was held in the Brabourne and Smeeth Scout and Guide Hut and saw artists from both villages joining up to create memorable displays.

Sue Chapman, chairman of the organising committee, said: "I was extremely delighted by the wonderful display and variety that all the artists brought with them.  The work was amazingly varied, ranging from dynamic metalwork from Leigh Smallwood and Debby Wooldridge through various artwork styles, pottery, ceramics, jewellery, glassware, photography and some amazing houses crafted out of old tree stumps by Lynn Mercy."

Visitors viewed the work by 17 local artists and saw demonstrations and enjoyed refreshments from the Explorer Scouts.

Sue Chapman added: "I do hope we are able to keep the event running again next year.  It's been a real team effort and the committee have all put in a considerable amount of work in varying ways."
