Kentish Express - 19 June 2008 - Artists Opening Their Studios One Last Time |
|
The last chance this summer to see artists at work in their production centres is on offer. This weekend is the final one of South East Open Studios 2008, which gives the public the opportunity to visit artists in their own studios. All the participating artists in the area are open on Saturday and most are open (tomorrow) Friday and Sunday too. The artists are only too happy to give directions to the next studio and recommend pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. A suggested route could be to start in Woodchurch at the studio of Paula MacArthur (contemporary paintings), then up to Bethersden to see Elizabeth Jemmett (paintings) and Audrey Weatherly (textiles). After that it's a short drive to Westwell Lane north of Ashford to the studio of contemporary artist Cathy Streeter and her husband Steve (metalworks) who will be working at his forge. Head down Sandyhurst Lane to Dominique Morgan for more paintings and textiles. Then it is off to Kennington and Edwina Finn's studio to see her beautiful botanical paintings. Staying in Kennington take the Canterbury Road out of Ashford and on the right is Ken Blanshard's studio set in a stunning English country garden. After Kennington it's a drive across country to Brabourne Lees to see the studios of Liz Garnett (vibrant flower photography, abstracts and landscapes), Mike Tremblay (paintings) and Christine Dumont (handmade beads and jewellery). Last stop is Beryl Haydock at Park Farm for paintings in a variety of media. Full details of artists taking part can be found in the Open Studios guide, which is available from Ashford Library Gallery and the tourist information centre. The guide is also available online at www.seos-art.org and from each of the studios. |
