Kentish Express - 12 June 2008 - Artists Open Doors To Studios

IF YOU have ever wondered how artists find their inspiration, then here’s your chance to find out.

Over the next couple of weeks artists across the borough are inviting visitors inside their studios as part of the 12th annual South East Open Studios event.

There are 265 artists taking part throughout Kent and East Sussex.

To promote the scheme, 15 of the 28 Ashford borough artists taking part are currently displaying examples of their work at Ashford library gallery in Church Road. The exhibition was opened last week by David Hill, chief executive of Ashford Borough Council, and runs until tomorrow (Friday).

The artists taking part in the exhibition are Joel Arnstein, Ken Blanshard, Duncan Brannan, Gill Brigstock, Christine Dumont, Marilyn Ferris, Vikky Furse, Liz Garnett, Beryl Haydock, Paula MacArthur, Dominique Morgan, Mandy Munroe, Francis Pickering, Michael Tremblay and Mark Turner.

The artists range from painters and photographers to jewellers, textile artists and ceramacists.

Eleven of the Ashford artists have also collaborated on a video, which shows them at work and aims to give viewers a flavour of what to expect when visiting an artist’s studio.

Participating artists are Paula MacArthur, Ken Blanshard, Liz Garnett, Dominique Morgan, Edwina Finn, Cathy and Steve Streeter, Michael Tremblay, Christine Dumont, Susan Neal and Jane Bridger.

The video can be seen on you tube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkkhHcqKZa0 and was created by Liz Garnett with the help of Christine Dumont.

South East Open Studios runs until June 22 and more information about all the borough artists taking part and where to find their studios is available on www.seos-art.org Guides can also be picked up at the local libraries and tourist information centres.
